Bible Insights that Will Ignite Your Faith
Over the next few weeks, we are going on a journey through the Good Book “one character at a time.” I know these insights will be invaluable to you in your daily life.
Let’s start “in the beginning” with God, Who created all the characters who will inspire us.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
Seven Philosophies God Does Not Support
In just ten words: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” tells us that the God of the Bible does not believe in:
- ATHEISM – The philosophy that there is no God or gods. Atheists reject the existence of any deities and often rely on scientific and empirical evidence to understand the universe. They do not follow religious doctrines or practices and may advocate for secularism and rationalism.
- AGNOSTICISM – The philosophy that the existence of God or the divine is unknown or unknowable. Agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in a deity, maintaining that it is impossible to have certain knowledge about such matters
- POLYTHEISM – The philosophy that there are many gods or deities. Each deity typically has distinct attributes, powers, and domains. Ancient Greek, Roman, and Hindu religions are examples of polytheistic systems.
- EVOLUTION – The philosophy that God had no hand in creation. Evolution is a theory that species change over time through natural selection and genetic variation. It attempts to explain how organisms adapt to their environments and how new species arise from common ancestors.
- PANTHEISM – The philosophy that God and the Universe are identical. Pantheism holds that everything in existence is part of an all-encompassing, divine reality. This view sees the universe itself as a manifestation of God.
- FATALISM – The philosophy that all events are predetermined and inevitable. It suggests that human actions cannot change the course of events, as everything is controlled by fate or destiny.
- DUALISM – The philosophy that God and evil are equal. Dualism is the belief that reality consists of two fundamental, often opposing, elements. In philosophy, it often refers to the mind-body dualism, which posits that the mind and body are distinct and separate entities.
The Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). By contrast, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:1-2). The entire Trinity was present at creation – The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:1-5
What God Thinks About You, His New Creation
This was God’s opinion about everything He created. “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good” (v.31).
Sadly, sin entered into the picture and we were separated from God because of it. Those who receive the Lord as Personal Saviour, knowing He paid the supreme price on our behalf for sin, become a “new creation” and are adopted into the Family of God. That’s how God sees you! Do not allow anyone to diminish your self-esteem and cause you to believe you are an “inferior” human being in any way.
The Bible is one of the most encouraging books of all time. It shares testimonies and true stories of God’s dealings with humanity and encourages faith to arise in our hearts. As the Scripture says: “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
