The human being is one of the few things in life that does not come with a user manual. We are largely left to our own devices in as far as finding out what it comprises, how it operates, what it runs best on, how it should be treated, and what its ideal operating ranges are and so forth.

This book is an attempt to rectify this situation by collecting together in one place pertinent knowledge that has been amassed over the ages and putting it in simple terms that everyone can understand. The aim is to provide a basic knowledge of the body and its workings and what we should do to keep it in good working order both mentally and physically. The book does not purport to be a medical journal and it is stressed that any doubts as to health matters should always be addressed with the relevant medical practitioners.
