“For Mordecai the Jew was second to King Ahasuerus, and was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.” – Esther 10:3
The book is named after Esther, a brave woman who was prepared to put her life on the line for God, but the inspiration behind the story is Mordecai.
Here was a man who refused to compromise his faith. He bowed only to the Living God and was prepared to die rather than deny his Lord. He inspired Esther in like manner.
Daniel of the “fiery furnace” fame had the same attitude. “We will burn, but we will not bow”, he and his friends declared. (Daniel 3:16-18).
With an attitude like that, they were able to impact their generation for God. We are living thousands of years later, but our generation needs the Lord just as desperately.
Here is a personal challenge from the Lord Himself as He invites you to speak up for Him. “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 10:32,33.

16when Last Did You Celebrate An Answer to Prayer?
Posted By: Val on January 16, 2011 at 6:40 am“And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and all those doing the king’s work, helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. For Mordecai was great in the king’s palace, and his fame spread throughout all the provinces; for this man Mordecai became increasingly prominent … So they called these days Purim ..” – Esther 9:3,4,26.
There were obviously far more Persians than captive Jews in the country, but the appointed day was not going to be a pushover.
Mordecai and the Jews had help from every quarter and few “hot heads” were willing to take them on. There were some, but “the Jews defeated them (Esther 9:5).
The believer still has power to nullify the power of the enemy. We do not need swords and material weapons, however. Our weapons are far more powerful. ( 2 Corinthians 10:3-5).
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7.
The Jewish annual Feast of Purim commemorates this great victory in a celebration of thanks for the Lord’s intervention. (Esther 9:27,28).
Here is a great lesson for the believer in thankfulness. Jesus healed ten lepers one day, and commended one who came back to give thanks. (Luke 17:17).
A thankful heart – or a “gratitude attitude” – is pleasing to God.
