What’s Really Going on Inside Your Heart?

The Inner Man

“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,” – Eph 3:16

People tend to judge things by outward appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart – the inner man. (1 Sam 16:7).

Many times Christians put on their “church face” and go through the motions of spirituality, while their hearts are broken and their spirits torn.

Jimmy Ferguson, one of the early pioneers of the Youth For Christ movement in South Africa, always said: “Backsliding begins on our knees.” When we lose vital touch with the Lord and our “inner man” becomes sickly and weak, it is only a matter of time before our mask falls away.

And it will.

May I challenge you to take stock of your “inner man” today? We must learn to trust the Lord continually to strengthen us mightily through His Spirit in our inner being. There is no other way to grow spiritually. Soul Power, Self-will, Self-confidence, or mental knowledge of the Word, won’t do it.

Ask the Lord today – and every day – to strengthen you mightily by the Power of the Holy Spirit. He knows that is the only way we will continue to stand victoriously and be shining examples in the midst of an evil generation.
